Leveraging federal funding and partnering with private entities are “essential for government agencies as the complexity and scale of projects grows,” Voinis says. Ongoing projects such as the Long Bridge and Theodore Roosevelt Bridge rehabilitations funded by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act “enabled agencies to move forward with substantial capital investments while also prioritizing operations and maintenance of existing infrastructure,” he says.

Voinis says Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority’s $9-billion capital investment program for both Dulles and Reagan airports is boosting the transit sector as local bus and rail ridership increases with workers returning to the office. “The DMVMoves initiative will be a critical step to develop a unified vision for transit in our region and identify a sustainable funding model for public transit,” he says.

Demand for infrastructure work will be driven by potential projects such as a new Washington Commanders football stadium and the redevelopment of the old RFK stadium site, which was set for demolition at press time.
