Cohen says there now are two elements of work in Atlantic City: casino upgrades and housing. Casino work is always “state of the art in terms of new design trends” such as colors, fabrics and lighting, he notes. “Some of the original casinos in the city are approaching 40 years old and continue to need upgrading.”

The newer casinos, which tend to be more popular and busier, need regular maintenance and upgrades to stay “fresh,” Cohen says. “Carpets need regular replacement, but this isn’t done as a replacement in kind, but with an eye toward newer styles that reinterpret the space.”

Cohen says keeping up with design trends means casinos are perpetually being reinvented. He says this is “driven by fierce competition and an insatiable desire to captivate.”

Cohen says affordable and modest-priced housing is in big demand, while housing projects in general require amenities, package delivery systems as well as sustainable and eye-catching designs.

But construction of new casinos and office space are two markets that have cooled down in the area, he points out.
