In April, EarthCam released Control Center 9, the latest version of its suite of construction site camera and management software. At the same time, the company is moving beyond being a time-lapse image and site security platform to take on larger roles in materials tracking and jobsite safety and health.

EarthCam Jobsite Health is a new dashboard that provides project metrics generated by artificial intelligence analytics. It tracks three health and safety factors: readiness, activity and stress. Readiness involves evaluation of site preparedness and includes analysis of weather, project schedules and material availability, thereby enabling project managers and executives to better plan resource management. Concerns such as dumpster fill levels are automatically monitored from EarthCam-captured data.

The second factor is activity. Jobsite Health creates workforce activity summaries and identifies labor utilization issues or congested areas, allowing PMs to redistribute tasks for efficiency. It also delivers insights on usage of more than 50 types of equipment and vehicles, an expansion of equipment tracking EarthCam released in its last version.

The final site health/safety factor is stress. Control Center 9 identifies risks and safety concerns such as the absence of PPE, workers operating at height or in close proximity to energized equipment. Real-time alerts about hazardous weather and poor indoor air quality are also recorded and sent automatically. All three factors can be analyzed in a dashboard on a project manager’s smartphone or computer.

“We rebuilt the whole platform to highlight our AI and the magnitude of the data” collected by EarthCam’s cameras, said Brian Cury, the company’s founder and CEO. “The overlays really push the envelope of what you can do with desktops. We had to rewrite everything to make it quicker, faster, more efficient.”

Control Center 9’s AI can detect more than 85 different types of construction materials and their status—such as “arrived on site” or “installed”­—creating a searchable dataset of events and interactions. It also gives site personnel automated alerts and tags materials arrivals. All of it is searchable by natural language.

EarthCam began using an AI and computer vision to track safety and equipment in 2023, now its applying insight and presenting it to users in dashboards.
