Robins & Morton has begun work on the $150-million vertical expansion of the Huntsville Hospital Madison Street Tower in Huntsville, Ala. The five-story, 154,000-sq-ft facility (see rendering, right) will include 120 beds, a cardiothoracic intensive care unit, neurological intensive care unit for neurosurgical and stroke patients, three floors of acute medical space and a new and improved vehicle entrance for the emergency department. The project will convert 70 existing patient rooms from double occupancy to single occupancy and will provide the hospital with a total of 931 patient beds, up from the current 881. Cobb County, Ga.-based consulting firm Croy received two Engineering Excellence Merit Awards at the annual Georgia Engineering Awards program for the firm’s work on design of the Chattahoochee Technical College Aviation Training Academy in Paulding County, Ga., (see below) and for its efforts on the Depot Park and Piedmont Bank Amphitheater in Kennesaw, Ga. Hosted by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Georgia and the Georgia Society of Professional Engineers on March 7, the program recognizes company achievement in demonstrating design quality and ingenuity. On the Chattahoochee Technical College facility, which opened in 2024, Croy was responsible for civil design of the site layout, utility design, grading, drainage and stakeholder coordination. The company says it worked with the city of Kennessaw to revitalize its historic downtown, first implementing a 12-phase master plan with program elements to increase the park’s size and to create a vibrant area. The Piedmont Bank Amphitheater, which included parking and a meadow area with trails and plaza event space, opened in 2024, signifying the completion of Phase 8 of the master plan.
