ENR Midwest has selected SmithGroup as its Design Firm of the Year for 2025.
Founded in 1853 and headquartered in Detroit, Mich., SmithGroup is a global design firm specializing in architecture, engineering and planning, with a focus on health care, science and technology, higher education and workplace environments. Boasting a long and rich legacy, it is also the oldest continually operating architecture and engineering firm in the country.
The firm has a diverse portfolio of current and recently completed projects including the Michigan State University Multicultural Center in East Lansing, Mich.; the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center and Health Center, Racine, Wisc.; the Glass City Metropark in Toledo, Ohio; and the Center for Advanced Care West Expansion and Bed Pavilion for Advocate Aurora Health-Illinois Masonic in Chicago.
Signaling its commitment to diverse and inclusive talent development, SmithGroup offers justice, equity, diversity and inclusion scholarships, and has awarded more than $210,000 to 35 recipients across the United States since 2018.
