Balfour Beatty Picked for $889M I-30 Rebuild in Dallas

Balfour Beatty will reconstruct a portion of Interstate 30 through Dallas via an $889-million contract with the Texas Dept. of Transportation, the firm announced April 24.

The project will add six general purpose lanes across a 2.3-mile section of the interstate to bring the total to 12, with the goal of improving connectivity and reducing congestion across the city. Preconstruction is underway. Construction is set to start in 2026, kicking off a five-year construction period.

The I-30 project will also construct nine crossings to link the interstate with the Southern Gateway, the I-35E Lowest Stemmons and the Horseshoe, all projects Balfour Beatty completed with TxDOT in the past five years.

Lee Quinn, Balfour Beatty Group chief executive, says in the release that the firm has decades of experience working on complex roadway projects in Dallas, and the contract “marks a significant milestone in Balfour Beatty’s 30-year partnership” with TxDOT.

Balfour Beatty is also at work with TxDOT on a $746-million contract awarded in November 2024 to reconstruct part of Interstate 35 through Austin. The project will rebuild about two-and-a-half miles of I-35 on the south side of downtown Austin to provide eight general purpose lanes, a new intersection and multiple upgraded access roads.

A new bridge-constructed via barge will be built across the 416-acre Lady Bird Lake to replace an existing bridge constructed in 1956. Construction begins in the first half of this year and is expected to complete in 2033.
