Austin Airport Selects Firms for Program Management Services
The City of Austin, Texas, has selected seven contractors to provide on-call program management services to support Austin-Bergstrom International Airport’s landmark Airport Expansion and Development Program (AEDP), known as Journey With AUS, as well as other aviation-related capital improvement and infrastructure projects.
The selected firms—Abadjis Systems Ltd.; AECOM Technical Services, Inc.; Geometrics Engineering, P.S., Inc.; Hill International, Inc.; Parsons Transportation Group Inc.; STV Construction, Inc.; and Sunland Group, Inc.—will supplement the City’s Department of Aviation staff with expertise needed to ensure timely and efficient project implementation and delivery.
According to documentation from the City, the requirements-based contracts are to be used only as needed, and as budget allows. Each contract has an initial five-year term, with up to two one-year extension options in amounts not to exceed $35 million. Work can be divided equally among the contractors, or assigned to a specific firm that can provide required services.
Journey With AUS is a comprehensive five- to seven-year initiative designed to modernize and expand the airport through projects that increase capacity and improve operational efficiency. The $4-billion program began with Whiting-Turner’s recent completion of a 20,600-sq-ft expansion of the Barbara Jordan Terminal’s International Arrivals area and baggage claim area, and a newly launched $30-million, 12,000-sq-ft Atrium Infill project.
Last fall, the City gave the go-ahead for additional projects at the same terminal, including a new $820-million Arrivals and Departures Hall to be built by Austin Commercial LP, and a $1-billion 20-gate concourse to be built by Hensel Phelps Construction Co. Both projects are to be completed by 2030.
Expanded surface and structured parking, central utility plant, baggage handling systems, airside improvements and support facilities are also part of Journey With AUS, which is being funded by current and future airport revenue, bonds and federal grants totaling $42 million.
The on-call program management services work also covers the assignments under the airport’s Rolling Capital Improvement Program, which focuses on end-of-life projects for systems components, including air- and landside facilities, terminals and utilities.
Passenger traffic at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport has reached record levels in recent years, topping 21 million arrivals and departures in 2024.
